In February Gigaclear applied to Ofcom for Code Powers and, after some discussion, Ofcom published a Consultation on the 10th March 2011. The Consultation allowed comment on applying the electronic communications code to Gigaclear Limited under Section 106(3) of the Communications Act 2003. The completed Consultation can be found at: http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/consultations/gigaclear/

On the 10th May 2011 David Stewart, Competition Policy Director at Ofcom, issued the Direction applying the electronic communications code to Gigaclear.

Gigaclear now has powers to carry out street works in relation to the roll out of fibre-based telecoms networks in the UK. This important step allows Gigaclear to use public highways to build the network and deliver service where required.

The completion of the Consultation and the award of Code Powers sets the scene for network construction to begin in the summer, bringing Ultrafast communications to communities across the Thames Valley.

Hang on to your hats!
