GIGACLEAR RANKED FASTEST ISP IN THE UK
Gigaclear, a provider of ultrafast fibre-optic broadband to rural communities has once again been ranked the UK’s fastest ISP in the NetIndex compiled by Ookla. The current index, published 5 November 2013, is based on analysis of data collected between 6 October 2013 and 4 November 2013. Gigaclear achieved average download speeds of 197.99 Mbps and average upload speeds of 177.57 Mbps across 293 tests.
Based on average download speeds, Gigaclear was 4.78 times faster than Virgin, ranked the fastest of the UK’s major* ISPs (41.32 Mbps). Based on average upload speeds, Gigaclear was 9.62 times faster than Cablecom, ranked the fastest of the UK’s major ISPs (18.46 Mbps).
Gigaclear chief executive, Matthew Hare said, “The index shows vast differences between ISPs. The current practice of telling customers they will receive ‘up to’ a certain speed can be misleading. Gigaclear offers a range of home and business broadband products with guaranteed performance levels – starting with its H50 Unlimited product which provides 50 Mbps uploads and 50 Mbps downloads for just £37.”
Gigaclear remains one of the very few UK ISPs rolling out fibre-to-the–premises as opposed to fibre-to the-cabinet. It does not rely on existing copper infrastructure, which is slower and can be unreliable.
Broadband speed and reliability can impact access to entertainment, education and other services as well as residents’ work/life balance. Gigaclear customer Julian Moris commented, “I’m now able to work just as efficiently at home as in the office. This means that I can miss the rush hour completely and have a better work/life balance.”
* Major ISPs – Defined by NetIndex as the 20 largest ISPs with at least 100 tests in the current index.
